What it is

Swoop is a fishing game for the browser. Gulp, a pelican in a cap, glides back and forth over the sea. While you hold, it dives toward the water; when you let go, it climbs. Underwater it can barely move sideways, so choosing when to dive is the key.

Fish swim at three depths: sardines, near the surface, are worth little; medium fish, deeper, are worth more; and the golden fish, at the very bottom, is worth the most, but there is only one at a time. Gulp's pouch holds up to three fish, and they only count once Gulp climbs back above the surface and banks them. Banking a full pouch adds a bonus, the “Big Gulp”. Jellyfish are the danger: if Gulp touches one, it is stunned and drops the whole catch in the pouch. A round lasts 40 seconds, and whatever is still in the pouch when time is up is lost. As time passes there are more jellyfish and everything swims faster.

With a finger or the mouse

With a finger or the mouse: hold down to make Gulp dive and let go to make it climb. The first touch starts the round.

With the keyboard

With the keyboard: hold the space bar to dive and release it to climb. Escape or the P key pauses the game.

Daily challenge

Pick “Daily challenge” on the start screen or after a run. On that day everyone fishes the same fish and jellyfish, and your best score for today is saved separately on your own device. Today’s challenge is the same for everyone on each difficulty, and each one keeps its own best score.

Difficulty

You can play Normal, Hard or Extreme. On the last two the jellyfish arrive sooner and everything moves faster. Each keeps its own best score.
